The flames devour California.
A fire that broke out in the north of the state, and already considered the worst of 2022, has already burned 21,245 hectares of land, forcing the evacuation of over 2,000 people and endangering another 8,000.
The preliminary toll is two deaths but the authorities do not rule out that it could worsen.
The two lifeless bodies were found by rescuers in a completely burned-out car.
The two were probably trying to escape but didn't have time to escape.
The Siskiyou County Sheriff does not release further details on the victims, merely encouraging all area residents to follow orders.
Specialized teams with fire-trained dogs were unleashed to locate possible other victims among the rubble of dozens of destroyed structures and homes.
Despite the efforts of an army of 650 firefighters, the flames are still far from under control and the battle to tame them promises to be difficult due to the climatic conditions.
The record heat and low humidity have now alternated with lightning and thunderstorms that risk causing other fires, especially among the dry vegetation of the area due to extreme drought.
The increasingly intense cloud of smoke that hangs over the fire has also prevented the planes of the firefighters from flying in the last few hours.
