Her life was dazzling, her final resting place is bizarre: According to several media outlets, Ivana Trump is buried on one of Donald Trump's golf courses. The grave is therefore near the golf club's main building in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Tax experts and the media, such as »The Guardian«, speculate as to why Ivana Trump is buried there.
The grave could possibly bring tax benefits to Donald Trump.
Because: According to the tax laws of New Jersey, cemeteries are not only exempt from property taxes, dues and assessments or property taxes, but also from business taxes, sales taxes, income taxes and inheritance taxes.
Brooke Harrington, a professor of sociology at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, tweeted about it.
She wondered why Ivana Trump's grave was on the golf course.
She heard that Trump had her buried there for tax reasons.
Harrington then reviewed the state's tax laws, she writes.
And found out that cemeteries are actually exempt from taxes.
Ivana Trump died in mid-July at the age of 73.
According to US authorities, Trump died as a result of an accident.
She suffered injuries to her upper body from a blunt impact, the New York coroner's office said.
Born Ivana Zelníčková in Czechoslovakia, she had come to New York to work as a model.
She married Trump when he was planning his first real estate project.
In the 1980s, the Trumps were a sought-after society couple, and their War of the Roses made headlines for months in 1990.
Their children Donald Junior, Ivanka and Eric are considered the next generation of power in the dynasty.
According to the Washington Post, Donald Trump had the idea of building a cemetery on the golf club's grounds a few years ago.
Trump announced at the time that he chose the property as his final resting place because it was his favorite property.
But later he said he might prefer to be buried in Florida.
The Washington Post reported back in 2017 that non-profit cemeteries are exempt from taxes.
However, Trump had already found another way to reduce taxes: he had declared the golf course a farm because some trees on the site were processed into mulch.
