Sunflowers are the queens of the bed.
The following varieties are hardy and will beautify your garden for several years.
The extremely beautiful specimens that produce a sea of yellow are usually annual sunflowers, i.e. Helianthus annuus.
These plants, which can grow up to four meters high, are mainly used in agriculture to obtain sunflower oil and sunflower seeds.
But frost and winter mean the end for the plant from the daisy family.

If you don't want to plant sunflowers every year, you should use perennials, because they grow again every year.
The following specimens not only need little care, they are particularly popular due to their lush blooms, which appear between August and October:
Helianthus decpetalus 'Meteor'
Helianthus tuberosus
Helianthus decapetalus
Not only does the blossom delight like that of annual sunflowers - the perennials also reach almost as impressive heights.
Helianthus decpetalus "Meteor" and Helianthus decapetalus grow to around 1.80 meters in height, while Helianthus tuberosus even grows up to three meters in height.
Only the flowering cannot keep up with the annual variant.
Another well-known plant from the sunflower genus is Jerusalem artichoke, which most people know as an edible tuber and uses the roots in a similar way to potatoes.

Perennial sunflowers should be in a sunny to semi-shady place.
The distance to the next plant can be a little shorter for perennials because they grow a little less wide.
The above varieties are hardy down to minus 29 degrees Celsius.
