(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, 01 AUG - "A miscalculation is enough for the nuclear holocaust": this is the warning launched by the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on the occasion of the 10th conference of the Treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
"We have been extraordinarily lucky so far. Bad luck is not a strategy. Nor is it a shield against geopolitical tensions that lead to nuclear conflict," he commented.
Guterres called on nations to "be united in a new path towards a world free of nuclear weapons".
"The elimination of nuclear weapons is the only guarantee that they will never be used", was the appeal of the General Secretary, who added that he will go to Hiroshima for
anniversary of the bombing of August 6, 1945 by the United States.
