ANSA PMI - BEIJING, 02 AUG - China suspended the import of food goods from over 180 Taiwanese companies overnight with a move that appears to be a first retaliation against the possible visit to the island of the speaker of the US Chamber, Nancy Pelosi.
The Taipei media noted that "the sudden move by Chinese Customs will cause a severe blow" to the local food industry, including agriculture and fishing.
On the basis of the official findings, Customs disputed "the violation of relevant legislation and urgently stopped the import". Since 2021, China has banned pineapples and other Taiwanese goods for the alleged presence of parasites and banned substances.
