The British parliament decided to close its TikTok account after conservative MPs and two lords expressed concerns about the possibility that Chinese social media could pass user data to the Beijing government.
The concerns are contained in a letter sent to the speakers of the common rooms and the lords.
First signatory is the Conservative MP Nus Ghani.
In addition to him there is the former candidate for the leadership of the majority party Tom Tugendhadt and the former leader of the Tories, Sir Iain Duncan Smith, known for his strongly critical positions towards China.
The letter reads: "The prospect of Xi Jinping's government having access to personal data on our children's phones should be of great concern."
In Westminster it was thus decided to suspend the pilot project that had led to the creation of a parliamentary profile to attract young users of the social network owned by the Chinese Bytedance
