Videos of his exploits subsequently circulated on social media.
Among them, that of Charlotte Burton-Delph, a hiker who was then strolling around Lake Buttermere, overlooked by the High Crag, with her family.
The walker thus saw, above their heads, a very serene Tom Cruise, in the middle of a paragliding session.
"I've been around Lake Buttermere quite a few times, but meeting Tom Cruise on a paraglider for the filming of
Mission Impossible
is the height of cool," she wrote in the caption of the sequence, posted on Twitter.
The video of this unexpected meeting has since been viewed more than a million times.
