(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, AUGUST 03 - The European Commission today awarded 171 million euros for projects to support reception, asylum and repatriation systems (Amif) in Italy, Cyprus, Spain, Greece and Poland.
The funding is part of a call launched in early 2022 within the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund to finance projects in member states under pressure.
The project developed by Italy focuses on strengthening the capacity of the reception system upon arrival and in all subsequent phases, to protect and take care of the most vulnerable children and women.
Financial support to other countries will go to the construction of an accommodation facility and pre-departure centers in the Menoyia area, in Larnaka, for Cyprus, to the strengthening of the reception system in Ceuta and the Canary Islands for Spain, to international organizations in Greece, and improving the protection of refugee rights, direct assistance and return procedures for Poland.
New calls could be programmed in the EU budget of the Asylum Fund 2023. (ANSA).
