(ANSA) - BEIJING, 03 AUG - "We come in friendship to Taiwan, we come in peace to the region": this is what the president of the American Chamber Nancy Pelosi said, speaking in the first meeting of her visit to Taipei which triggered the very harsh reaction of China.
At the Legislative Yuan, the parliament of the island, Pelosi was received by Vice President Tsai Chi-Chang, who thanked for the welcome, underlining the importance of the links between Washington and Taipei, also in light of the CHIPS Act, which will offer subsidies for over 52 billion dollars for dichip production.
The last visit of a speaker of the US Congress to the Taipei parliament was in 1960. (ANSA).
