Hollywood star Joaquin Phoenix delighted cinema audiences in 2019 with the »Joker« character.
Now a sequel to the comic book adaptation is set to hit the big screen, again directed by Todd Phillips.
Studio Warner Bros. announced the US theatrical release of »Joker: Folie à Deux« for October 4, 2024.
According to information from »Deadline.com«, filming is scheduled to begin in December.
Phillips posted a photo of the script on Instagram back in June, along with the film's title and credits to the screenwriters (Phillips and Scott Silver).
He also provided an image of Phoenix reading the script.
»Folie à Deux« describes a mental disorder that is passed on from a person affected to a person close to them.
Nothing has been officially announced about the content of the sequel.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lady Gaga ("A Star is Born") is said to be in talks for a role.
The announcement of the sequel came shortly after Warner Bros. scrapped the further film adaptation of »Batgirl« due to cost reasons.
According to information from the »New York Post«, the film was poorly received by viewers during a test screening.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the costs of 90 million US dollars were significantly higher than originally planned.
In contrast, the original film »Joker«, starring Phoenix as the mentally ill Batman adversary, grossed more than one billion dollars worldwide in 2019.
Phoenix won the Oscar for best actor, and the thriller won the Golden Lion for best film at the Venice Film Festival.
