Some dialects also call him Ernting.

Native Americans also gave the full moon in August the nickname "Störmond", because in August the large bony fish, which live in both salt and fresh water, wriggled on the fishing hook particularly often.

One speaks of a super moon when the moon is in the opposite position to the sun, so that the facing side of the moon is fully illuminated.

The average distance to Earth is about 384,400 kilometers.

This year is particularly eventful because according to the lunar calendar there were four super moons: from May to August all particularly large full moons shone in the night sky. 

The following full moon on September 10th will already be 369,132 kilometers away and the next supermoon will not be seen again until August 2023.
