A fire broke out in Berlin's Grunewald forest on Thursday morning after an unintentional explosion at the blast site there and set the adjacent forest on fire.
"The situation is confusing," said a spokesman for the fire brigade, according to the dpa news agency.
Small explosive detonations can still be heard.
The fire brigade is on site with 77 emergency services.
According to the spokesman, no one was injured in the explosion.
The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance declared that "the forest and a storage facility for ammunition found by the Berlin police" were on fire.
"Annoyance from fire gases is to be expected," it said.
Residents should keep windows and doors closed.
Ventilation and air conditioning should be turned off.
The Kronprinzessinnenweg, Havelchaussee and Autobahn 155 are closed in this area.
