• Replace old light bulbs with economical LED bulbs.

• Instead of washing dishes by hand, use the dishwasher and load it fully before you run it.

• Check your contracts: What do you pay per kilowatt hour of electricity or gas?

Energy reserves for gas and electricity bills: do you know the 2.5 rule?

Since the situation will probably not subside for the time being, it is advisable for consumers to save energy.

This can be when showering, bathing, cooking and washing.

Experts also recommend building up energy reserves for the coming year.

This means that you put money aside so that you don't have to pay horrendous amounts of utility bills next year that you don't know how to pay.

If your income allows it, you should therefore build up reserves.

You can use the 2.5 rule as a guide, which states:

2.5 Rule for Energy Reserves

Take the monthly energy costs from the previous year and multiply the total by 2.5.

Example: Last year you paid 150 euros a month for electricity and gas.

This means that next year you can roughly expect costs of 375 euros.

If possible, you should put the difference of 225 euros aside now.
