The CDU MP and former Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble paid a visit to the numerous punks currently based on Sylt thanks to the 9-euro ticket.

As the “Sylter Rundschau” reported, among other things, Schäuble discussed the distribution of wealth in Germany with the participants who had been camping on the island for weeks.

According to the newspaper, he demanded, among other things, that politicians must ensure that society remains tolerant.

Globalization was also an issue.

During the conversation, Schäuble sat in his racing wheelchair, which he often uses on Sylt, according to the Rundschau.

The politician wore a pink polo shirt, there was coffee and apple spritzer.

A security guard accompanied the CDU politician, and a total of around 75 people gathered on the stairs in front of the town hall in Westerland.

»Wool, wool, wool!«

According to the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper, a punk praised the 79-year-old for his visit, even if he did not agree with Schäuble's view that consumer culture should be curbed through voluntariness.

Schäuble was "a professional for uncomfortable conversations," the man, who was not named, was quoted as saying.

According to the »Sylter Rundschau«, the participants finally paid tribute to the former Minister of Finance with the exclamation: »Wool, wool, wool!«

Schäuble himself said that he had discussed with the punks under the condition "that everything goes well".

"That's it, and that's good," said the politician after the interview.

Apparently, Schäuble did not travel to Sylt solely to talk to the participants in the protest camp that had been set up in Westerland for weeks.

According to information from the newspaper, the former President of the Bundestag and his wife Ingeborg were invited to the summer concert of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben in the St. Severin Church in Keitum, and he is also said to hold a reading at a literature festival.

Schäuble has been a member of the Bundestag without interruption since 1972 – longer than any other member of parliament before him.

After numerous ministerial posts during his career, Schäuble was President of Parliament in the last legislative period.

Since the federal elections last September, he has been sitting in the plenary session again as a simpler one.
