The firefighters were hard at work Friday morning to fight against two resumptions of fire which occurred Thursday in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, fires not causing concern for the population but always requiring a "important device", have they stated in a statement.
In the Villeneuve-Niozelles sector, where the fire covered around 250 hectares, the firefighters fought all night to deal with the recovery on Thursday evening, the firefighters said.
Friday, "the drought and the expected wind require keeping an important device," they added, specifying to focus on the right flank of the recovery.
Fix the resumption of fire in a mountainous terrain with difficult access
About 200 firefighters are still mobilized but the prefecture has deactivated its crisis unit due to the slowdown in the progression of the fire.
80 kilometers to the east, towards the town of Rougon, another fire covered around 650 hectares after resuming on Thursday.
The firefighters will work on Friday to "fix this recovery in mountainous terrain and with difficult access", they assured.
In addition to the mega-fires in Gironde, several fires also affected the south-east of France this summer, hit by a historic drought, with in particular 1,600 hectares going up in smoke south of Avignon in mid-July.
At the end of June, 1,800 hectares had also burned at the French army training camp in Canjuers (Var), located not far from there.
