In June 2022, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial production decreased by 2.1% compared to May.
It is the Istat
estimate
that detects an economic downturn for the second consecutive month.
In the second quarter, however, adds Istat, the level of production increased by 1.2% compared to the previous three months.
Adjusted for calendar effects, in June 2022 the overall index decreased in trend terms by 1.2% (there were 21 calendar working days as in June 2021).
The monthly negative trend extended to almost all sectors, with the
exception
of the energy sector (+ 1.9%).
The monthly seasonally adjusted index grows on a cyclical basis therefore only for energy, while it falls for capital goods (-3.3%), consumer goods (-2.1%) and intermediate goods (-1.3%) ).
For
capital goods
, Istat indicates, among others, the manufacture of machines and engines, measuring and control instruments and apparatus and motor vehicles.
Durable
consumer
goods include, among others, the manufacture of household appliances, furniture, motorcycles, sound and image reproduction equipment.
In non-durable ones there are, among others, the production, processing and storage of food and beverage products, some textile industries, the manufacture of pharmaceutical products.
As for intermediate products, the statistical institute indicates, among others, the manufacture of chemicals, metals and metal products, electrical appliances, the wood industry, the manufacture of textiles.
Among the sectors of economic activity that recorded
positive trend variations
in industrial production, Istat reports in June the manufacture of
coke and refined petroleum products
and the manufacture of
computers and electronic products
(+ 9.3% for both sectors), textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries (+ 5.5%).
The largest decreases are recorded in the manufacture of means of transport (-9.8%), in metallurgy and manufacture of metal products (-6.9%) and in the manufacture of electrical equipment (-6.1%).
