As rumors grew, pop star and actress Lady Gaga confirmed her role in the sequel to
the Oscar-winning psychological thriller
Joker by posting a musical teaser on Twitter on Thursday (August 4th).
The clip shows figures dancing to the tune of the song
Cheek to Cheek
, originally written by Irving Berlin in 1935 for Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers' film

, with the names of Phoenix and Gaga flashing in the background. screen.
Joker - Folie à deux
(in French in the text) will see Joaquin Phoenix return to his role as a psychopathic killer.
The release is announced for October 4, 2024, five years to the day after the release of the first part.
The 47-year-old actor, known for portraying dark or emotionally troubled characters, first donned the psychopathic clown costume in the 2019 film
Joker
depicting the origins of DC Comics superhero archenemy Batman. .
The role had won him the Oscar for best actor the same year.

traces the psychological descent of Arthur Fleck, a failed clown and aspiring comedian turned cold-blooded killer who inspires a wave of violence in Gotham City.

, a source close to the project would have revealed that a large part of the plot of this new component will take place within Arkham prison.
In the comics as well as the 1992 Batman animated series, this asylum for criminals is the meeting place between Harley Quinn, then Dr. Harleen Quinzel, and the Joker.
A relationship that will turn out to be extremely toxic and dark.
No further details on the sequel were given by Warner Bros.

Lady Gaga will therefore be the latest in a long line of actresses who have played or voiced the iconic character of Harley Quinn.
More recently, Margot Robbie starred as the "Queen of Crime of Gotham City" in the films
Suicide Squad
(2016 and 2021) and
Birds of Prey
(2020).
It is not yet known if Margot Robbie will continue to play Harley Quinn.
However, the Joker films starring Joaquin Phoenix take place in a separate cinematic universe, which would likely mean that Margot Robbie can still reprise her role as the iconic villain in any future film.
