Pruning in August: Three trees need it

Even if you actually use pruning shears in spring, there are a few arguments that justify pruning in August.
Everything is in full bloom in the garden in August and the harvest is in full swing.
So why should you use the pruning shears now of all times?
Three trees can benefit from a targeted pruning.

These are the shrubs that benefit from pruning in August:

Deciduous trees such as lilac or forsythia
Fruit trees like cherry or peach
Sharp and clean pruning shears are required for pruning.
With the right knife or pruning shears, cutting is not only easier to do, the plant is also injured less and heals faster.
If you realize that the pruned plant is sick, it is advisable to disinfect the tool between each cut.
For plants with spines or thorns, it is also advisable to wear the necessary protective clothing such as gloves.

if you occasionally reduce the crown a little or remove branches that would otherwise get in the way.
Don't be surprised, because as a bleeding wood, water drips from the cuts of the walnut.
This is how the growth keeps its wounds clean.
In August, the sap pressure is particularly low, which is why it bleeds less.
However, the branches should never be cut back more than a meter.
Rejuvenation pruning of lilacs can be done in August when the plant is several years old.
Because when the flowers have faded and the plant has to gather strength for the coming bloom in spring, this stimulates growth.
But young plants can also benefit from a light cut, the so-called training cut.
Pruning in August: maintenance pruning vs. rejuvenation pruning
In the case of fruit trees, a maintenance cut is recommended from early autumn: To ensure that branches do not break off due to overhang, you should devote yourself to the crown structure.
Sections of branches that have been removed are cut back to younger branches, and the tree is continuously rejuvenated.
In addition, the fruit wood renewal is stimulated.
Too dense, touching, bare and dead branches should also be removed here, as well as water shoots.

Pruning is recommended for shrubs and some perennials, but not for annual plants that feed birds and other animals with their infructescence after flowering.
