Surprising: What really determines our body weight - more than just exercise and nutrition

If you eat more calories than you need, you gain weight.
This principle is disputed by researchers.
They blame something else for body weight.
Anyone who wants to lose weight always hears the same thing: a lot of exercise and eating less should do the trick.
But many who try to lose weight this way fail.
On the other hand, there are people who eat all day but don't gain weight.
American researchers have now dealt with this phenomenon - with astonishing results.
This part of the body requires a lot of energy - and we don't notice it
Our brain is supposed to be a real "energy guzzler"
.
The brain uses about a quarter of the energy that we consume throughout the day.
And not only when we strain our gray cells at work or learn languages: Our brain burns the most energy in the form of glucose when it produces hormones and controls metabolism and organ functions, as the Focus reports.
"To say obesity is an energy balance problem is like saying fever is caused by temperature imbalance," said Dariush Mozaffarian, dean of the Friedman School.
The assumption that obesity is caused by chronic "too many calories" is, in his view, insufficient
.
Or the other way around: If you eat fewer calories than you use up every day, you don't necessarily have to lose weight.
