The nocturnal visit of a black bear shocked a woman in the USA – a video of the action was widely commented on Facebook.

It's always a problem with unannounced visitors: Some people are happy - others, on the other hand, are not very enthusiastic when someone suddenly shows up at the door without prior notice.

But there are also guests who are definitely not generally willing to let in – completely independent of prior notice.

For example, a black bear – such an animal was now tampering with the door of an American woman in the middle of the night.

Encounters with bears in the wild are a rare event in our latitudes - but it still happens every now and then.

Cyclists recently encountered a wild animal near the German border - and a wild animal camera also recorded a free-roaming bear in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The American Wendy Watson only noticed the nocturnal bear visit in her garden the next morning.

After she found some of her birdhouses demolished, she looked at the video recordings of her doorbell camera - and could hardly believe her eyes: around half past three in the morning a huge black bear had tampered with her door.

A video of the visit is currently circulating on social media – including on Facebook (to be found below).

Black bear tampers with front door - and destroys birdhouses

In the clip you can see how the black bear first gets up in front of the door and then actually puts his paw to the right of the door.

It looks as if he is ringing the bell – but according to US media reports, there is no ringtone.

Luckily he doesn't stay long - just a few seconds later he disappears again.

Presumably to turn to the birdhouses.

The American black bear (also called baribal) is widespread in North America.

In contrast to the dreaded grizzly bear, the black bear is considered less dangerous - but you probably wouldn't want to meet such an animal head-on.

Should an encounter nevertheless occur, one should remain calm and composed – even if that is understandably difficult at such a moment.

Incidentally, the weight of black bears differs significantly according to gender: while females weigh between 40 and 230 kilograms, males can even weigh up to 400 kilograms – on average, a black bear weighs around 130 kilograms.

It's hard to say how heavy the bear in the video is - but it doesn't necessarily seem small.

As frightening as the nocturnal visit is, it gets even worse: a whole family of bears hibernated in the basement of a family in California – without the residents first noticing anything.

In any case, the video of the bear supposedly ringing at the door amuses many Facebook users and is diligently commented on.
