Abadi-style savory cookies (only much better) (Photo: Alon Masika)
Most of you may call these salty, crunchy and addictive cookies Abadi cookies, thanks to the famous Mizrahi cookie brand, but my friends call them simply - Shoshana's cookies.
With all due respect to Abadi, and there is a lot of respect, I do not replace my mother's oriental cookies with any store-bought cookie.
It is the combination of the butter with the oil that creates a very soft and pleasant dough to work with and is also responsible for their wonderful crispiness.
It only takes a little patience here to make small strips from the dough and turn them into rings dipped in sesame or za'atar, but hey, what do you have kids for on vacation?
This is exactly the time to tie them aprons and let them play a little with the dough.
It is also possible with zaatar.

Preparation
How do you make savory oriental cookies?
1 Heat an oven to 180 degrees and line two large, flat pans with baking paper.
2 In a mixer with a guitar hook or in a food processor, put all the ingredients into a uniform dough.
3 Cut out about 50 small circles of equal size from the dough.
Make a strip ('snake') from each ball and connect the two ends to form a small bagel.
4 Dip one side of the bagel in a beaten egg and immediately in the bowl with the sesame seeds.
5 Place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper at small intervals and bake for about 25 minutes until golden.
6 Cool and store in a sealed box.
