A 50-year-old was run over by a car in North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday evening after a small child released the handbrake. He died on the spot in the ambulance.

According to the police and fire department, a child accidentally released the handbrake of a parked vehicle in Haan near Düsseldorf.

A 50-year-old man got under the rolling car and was fatally injured.

According to the police report, the three-year-old and his six-year-old brother had previously been strapped in by their father in the back seat of the car.

Then the father talked next to the car with the 50-year-old and another man.

Meanwhile, both boys unbuckled themselves.

The six-year-old left the car, according to the investigation, the three-year-old climbed forward and apparently released the handbrake.

"This caused the car to roll backwards," police said.

“The three men noticed this and tried to prevent it from rolling so that it wouldn't hit another vehicle.

The father yanked open the driver's door and tried to press the brake with his foot while trying to hold the car against the A-pillar.” The other two men rushed to help.

Standing at the rear, they tried to stop the car from rolling away.

However, the 50-year-old fell under the car at the rear for reasons that are still unclear and was trapped.

According to the information, the fire brigade then raised the vehicle with lifting bags and freed the accident victim.

Despite several attempts at resuscitation, the 50-year-old died from his serious injuries.
