Twenty members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group were arrested overnight by Israeli security forces in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli army announced on the third day of a military operation on the Gaza Strip.

During several raids, "about 20 suspects belonging to the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization were arrested" across the West Bank, Palestinian territory occupied by the Jewish state since 1967, the army said in a press release.

Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for the launch of rockets towards Jerusalem.

In a statement, the organization warned Israel that it "will react strongly" to the killing of its military commander in the southern Strip, Khaled Mansour, which took place yesterday.

During the night, Islamic Jihad fired a single rocket, but in the early morning it directed the fire towards Jerusalem and the Israeli city of Sderot, close to the Strip.

"It was a first reaction," said the military wing of Islamic Jihad.

Alarm sirens rang out this morning on the outskirts of Jerusalem.

According to Israeli public television Kan, the Iron Dome defense systems intercepted two rockets fired from Gaza.

There is no news of victims.

The incident occurred while groups of religious Jews were entering the Temple Mount for the Jews on the Jewish Solemnity of the Nine of the month of Av.

The Israeli army continued to strike Gaza overnight in response to rocket fire, as tensions are feared in Jerusalem over the celebrations for Tisha B'Av, a Jewish holiday.

The Times of Israel reports it, stating that the places of the rites are manned by massive police forces.

Numerous pilgrims are already waiting to be able to access the Esplanade of the Mosques, where access to men under a certain age has been forbidden.

The Palestinian Jihad has meanwhile confirmed, as the 'Breaking Dawn' operation enters its third day, the death of the high commander Khaled Mansour, which is added to that of Tayseer Jabari, which took place two days ago during the Israeli raids.

According to the same source, the commander of the

missile unit of the Al-Quds Brigades, Raafat al-Zamili, 'martyred' in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian media - the Times of Israel website also reports - then reported 7 injured in the Israeli attacks near Rafah, where a residential building was hit.

The Israeli army, in an English-language tweet, claims to have targeted alleged terrorist tunnels used by Islamic Jihad.

The death toll of Palestinians who died last Friday due to Israeli attacks in the ongoing conflict in Gaza between Israel and Islamic Jihad has increased to 32, including six children: the Ministry of Health in the Palestinian enclave announced today, adding that the wounded are 215.
