Why is monkeypox still called monkeypox?

The World Health Organization announced in mid-June that it wanted to rename the disease, the virus and its strains, in particular to avoid any stig


Almost two months later, nothing has changed yet.

On June 14, the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that he wanted to change the name of monkeypox and he promised "announcements as soon as possible".

The disease could finally be given a name within "a few weeks", now announces to Parisian Sylvie Briand, director of the Department of Preparation and Prevention of Epidemics and Pandemics at WHO.
