In Delmenhorst, Lower Saxony, an 80-year-old was killed – presumably by her grandson.
According to the police, officials found the woman lifeless in front of her house on Sunday evening, and the emergency doctor could only determine death.
Her grandson was arrested as an urgent suspect.
At the request of the Oldenburg public prosecutor, the 22-year-old should be brought before a magistrate on Monday.
The young man, who lived in the family home with his grandmother, called relatives in Rhineland-Palatinate and told them that he had killed his grandmother.
The family members then called 911.
The grandson was found slightly injured at the elderly woman's house in the Deichhorst district, first taken to the hospital and then to a police cell.
Any help came too late for the 80-year-old.
The woman had "obviously been subjected to violence," the investigators said.
According to his own statements, the grandson suffered a bleeding wound on his head during an argument with his grandmother, as a police spokesman said.
The suspect initially did not comment on what triggered the dispute and the deadly escalation.
"The motive is still completely unclear," said the police spokesman.
