The low level of the Po in northern Italy has released what may still be a dangerous relic from the Second World War.
As the Reuters news agency reported, a dud had been found in an otherwise flooded part of the river bed.
Fishermen discovered the 450-kilogram bomb near the city of Mantua on July 25.
Now the World War II bomb has been rendered harmless.
According to the Italian army, 3,000 people had to leave their homes in the area.
Accordingly, the eviction initially dragged on because some of those affected did not want to leave their homes.
The ship and rail traffic was temporarily stopped, and the airspace was temporarily closed.
Finally, the detonator of the US bomb was removed.
According to the information, it contained 240 kilograms of explosives.
The bomb had been removed and blown up in a targeted manner.
According to the Reuters news agency, Italy had declared a state of emergency for the regions around the Po because of the persistent drought in July.
About a third of the country's agricultural production comes from the normally water-rich area along the river.
Now she is battling the worst drought in 70 years.
