A police operation on Sunday evening ended fatally for a man from Oer-Erkenschwick.

According to the police, the man died in a clinic after the officers intervened.

Accordingly, witnesses had alerted the police at around 7:35 p.m. because the 39-year-old is said to have rioted in an apartment.

A woman was apparently also in the apartment, but was able to get to safety.

Because the suspect put up massive resistance and could not be calmed down by the officers, pepper spray was used, the police said.

In addition, the man was fixed.

Suspect lost consciousness

The 39-year-old then lost consciousness "as part of the operation" and was taken to a hospital in an ambulance, where he died on Monday night.

According to investigators, there is evidence that the man was under the influence of drugs.

According to the Recklinghausen police, around 150 onlookers had gathered at the scene.

In the case, the police headquarters in Dortmund is now investigating for reasons of neutrality.
