(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 08 - Russian President Vladimir Putin 'appeared' in a playground in New York's Central Park.

Not really him but a statue of him, showing the Russian president astride a miniature tank, all painted in bright red paint.

It is a work of the French artist James Colomina.

CNN writes it.

Colomina took credit for the sculpture in an Instagram post.

"This sculpture wants to denounce the absurdity of war to highlight the courage of children in the face of violent and catastrophic situations caused by others", has written Colomina, posting several photos of children who playfully interact with the sculpture.

Colomina is known for his bright red sculptures, often secretly installed in public places without prior notice.

In April he installed another sculpture with an anti-war message: a child soldier carrying a gun that turns into a rose, placed in France.

Last year he erected two sculptures in his characteristic red of him in Berlin as a commentary on the 32nd anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
