(ANSA) - BEIJING, 09 AUG - China denies the existence of a "median line" in the Taiwan Strait, dividing the island from the mainland, and defines the measures adopted so far as "irreproachable".
"Taiwan is part of the Chinese territory and there is no middle line," Deputy Foreign Minister MaZhaoxu told the state network CCTV.
The military maneuvers near the island want to "safeguard the sacred sovereignty and territorial integrity of China", added Ma. "Our measures are public and appropriate, in line with domestic and international law".
The median line, never recognized, has however traditionally been respected by Beijing.
