Tea, egg and urine: the things that are allowed and forbidden to do when there is barley

Barley isn't terrible at all - it's not contagious or dangerous, not even terribly painful - and yet, when someone suffers from barley, it drives them crazy.

So we decided to check what to do with this common condition, and when you should still see a doctor

Barley (or stye in English) is an infection that appears at the base of the eyelashes and usually occurs in both eyes, in different locations along the eyelid.

The reason for the barley is the fact that the sebaceous glands near the base of the eyelashes become clogged and cause local irritation, inflammation and sometimes even a bacterial infection.

Despite the bacterial infection that may occur, the disease is not caused by an infectious disease - and it is not contagious.

The common symptoms are redness and local irritation, and of course - a hot and painful bump in the eyelid area.

In the case of a large lesion, pressure may be applied to the eye and cause blurred vision.

It is usually a phenomenon that passes quite easily, but in cases of severe pain and swelling, and certainly in cases of blurred vision - you should consult an ophthalmologist.

It is also worth knowing that those who suffer from this type of chronic inflammation may develop blepharitis.

Therefore, in cases of recurrent cataracts, you should consult an ophthalmologist.

So how do you treat barley?

The best treatment is preventive, especially for those who tend to develop barley.

It's a good idea to gently clean your eyelids every day with eye wipes.

If you already have barley, there are several things you can do:

⁃ In case of pain, you can take painkillers.

⁃Apply steroid cream to the infected area.

⁃Apply warm compresses that soften and soothe the area.

You can even place a warm hard-boiled egg wrapped in a towel or a clean piece of cloth.

Warm compresses are great, but there is no need for tea.

And of course, it is very important to know what not to do:

⁃Do not apply antibiotic ointment.

The cause of barley is usually not bacterial and the treatment is the inflammatory process and not the infection.

⁃Do not make mild compresses.

The tin contains pigments that may stain the eye.

Do not try to burst the abscess.

If it does not go away within a few days and the pain worsens, you should contact an ophthalmologist for surgical drainage.

Do not, under any circumstances, put urine on the eye.

We don't really need to explain it, do we?
