(ANSA) - BEIJING, AUGUST 09 - The heavy rains, the worst in the last 80 years, have hit Seoul and the surrounding regions, causing seven deaths and six missing, as well as causing heavy damage and inefficiencies amid flooding and blocking of the underground and public services.

The South Korean capital, the nearby port city of Incheon and the province of Gyeonggi fell over 100mm in measurements updated last night, peaks up to 141.5mm, a peak that has not been recorded since 1942. Many public facilities have gone out of service - such as for railways - in Seoul, Incheon and other areas.

About 80 road sections, three underground sections and 26 parking lots along the capital's river have been blocked for security reasons.

The Interior Ministry updated its level of flood damage surveillance from 'warning' to 'severe' at 1am Tuesday.

The meteorological agency has warned of further deterioration, forecasting more rainfall of up to 300 mm over the capital area and Gangwon province until tomorrow.

The northern parts of the Chungcheong provinces and the northwestern interior regions of the North Gyeongsang province could also be affected by heavy rainfall of up to 200 mm.

The Korea Forest Service, Yonhap reported, has issued landslide warnings in 47 cities and counties across the nation, including nine districts in Seoul, parts of Incheon, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and northern and southern Chungcheong provinces.
