Well-known streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ have been in competition with each other for years.

Disney+ has now managed to catch up with Netflix and announced that it will increase its prices.

Burbank – Consumers are faced with a huge choice of streaming offers.

The largest include Netflix, Amazon and Disney+.

They are in great competition with each other.

Disney has now reached a huge milestone.

The streaming provider has caught up with the long-time market leader Netflix with its subscriber numbers.

In addition, Disney announced that it would increase its prices.

Amazon also announced a few weeks ago that it would adjust its prices from September.

Disney + announces price increase – subscription with advertising should come

Disney managed to significantly increase its subscriber numbers with the two services Hulu and ESPN+.

Disney had around 221 million subscription customers in the past quarter.

The streaming service thus overtook the provider Netflix.

It recently had so many subscribers that Netflix lost around a million.

Disney also announced two changes.

Subscribers in the US will have to dig deeper into their wallets if they want to continue watching films and series ad-free.

Beginning December 8, Disney will introduce an ad-supported subscription.

Disney justified this change with a larger offer at different prices.

The streaming provider could appeal to a broader audience with the new model, as Kareem Daniel, chairman of Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution, said in a statement.

Do you have a Disney+ subscription?

Disney+ price increase - subscriptions can increase by three dollars

If you have basic Disney access in the US, you currently pay $7.99.

From December, however, subscribers will still be able to see advertising at the same price.

If you want to continue watching series and films on Disney ad-free, you'll have to pay $10.99 in a few months - three dollars more than now.

Hulu and the sports service ESPN+ will also be a few dollars more expensive.

Abroad - such as in Germany - content from Hulu and Disney's TV channel ABC is included in the Disney+ app.

Disney's growth was well above analysts' expectations.

The streaming service was able to win over a number of users, especially in the Indian market.

About eight million subscribers were added to the Indian service Disney+ Hotstar.

In total there are around 58 million customers in India.

Subscriber numbers in the US stagnated at around 44.5 million.

Outside of India, Disney+ has approximately 49.2 million subscribers - an increase of six million in three months.

It is not yet known whether and when there will be a price increase in Germany.

Netflix also increased its prices.

The advertising model seems to be popular among the streaming platforms.

Like Disney+, Netflix plans to introduce an ad-supported model for its subscribers.
