A 26-year-old is said to have stabbed a 31-year-old on the street in the course of an argument in Solingen.

Numerous people were involved in the dispute on Wednesday evening, said the police and public prosecutor in Wuppertal.

In the course of the argument, the 26-year-old is said to have stabbed the other man and fatally injured him.

The 31-year-old died on the spot despite attempts to revive him.

According to the police, the alleged perpetrator was arrested after a search near the crime scene.

He was due to appear before a magistrate on Thursday.

A 15-strong homicide commission was set up for further investigations.
