(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, 12 AUG - Salman Rushide is "alive and receiving the care he needs in the hospital".
This was said by New York governor Kathy Hochul speaking to the press about the attack suffered by the writer.
Salman Rushdie was taken to the operating room after being transported to the hospital.
Andrew Wylie, spokesman for Rushdie, made it known, writes the Guardian.
"Salman is in surgery," he said without giving further details on his condition.
According to the BBC, the writer was shot several times in the neck and chest.
