ambitious drama is loosely based on the life of Jeanne du Barry, Louis XV's last mistress at the court of Versailles, after Madame de Pompadour.

Born into poverty, Du Barry is a young working-class woman hungry for culture and pleasure who uses her intelligence and her charm to climb the ladder after another.

She becomes the favorite companion of Louis XV who regains his appetite for life thanks to their relationship.

The two fall madly in love.

Against all decorum and etiquette, Jeanne moved to Versailles, where her arrival scandalized the court.

Louis XV died in 1774 and Madame du Barry was forced to retire to a convent.

Thus it was that Marie Antoinette began to reign unchallenged in France.

In the cast among others Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud,

Jeanne du Barry is director Maïwenn's sixth film and her most ambitious production to date.
