A father of five from the USA resorts to a controversial upbringing method: He takes his children on a leash on excursions.

The independence of children begins with the first steps.

It is not always easy for parents to keep their offspring under control and to keep an eye on them, after all, the little ones want to test themselves for the first time in this phase.

What can be exhausting with one child can become an ordeal with multiple children and put a lot of strain on the parents' nerves.

A father of quintuplets from the USA therefore resorts to a controversial method: In order to be able to take better care of them, he puts his protégés on a leash on the go.

When he uploaded a video of a trip to social media, he was met with severe criticism.

When Jordan Diskrell is out with his family, he occasionally takes child safety harnesses with him to walk around with his five five-year-old children on leashes.

A stroller is too bulky to take with you everywhere, explains the father of five on his Instagram account.

“Besides, they want to walk.

A leash gives them the freedom to move - but we're still in control.

They love it,” he continues.

A dream for many helicopter parents: After all, they would like to monitor their children at all times.

Even if they usually only mean well, according to experts, they can demonstrably harm their children with this upbringing style, just like lawnmower parents.

Diskrell's video of a family trip caused similar criticism.

"They are people, not dogs," a follower raged on Instagram.

"Can't you just raise your kids well?

Explain to them why running away is dangerous,” wrote another user, for example.

"Don't have so many children if you don't have it under control," another user addressed the father of five.

However, some users also showed understanding.

"With five children you need something like that" and "ensuring the safety of the children has top priority" reads under his contribution.

Children's leash: Method causes discussions

The use of a children's leash has repeatedly caused discussions in recent years.

A leash for children is similar to the harness for dogs and therefore initially deters many parents, depending on the type of parent.

However, walking a child on a leash can also have advantages.

If the child is always holding the mother's or father's hand, this can sometimes lead to back problems in the adults because of the stooped posture.

Instead of letting the children run, parents are happy to pick them up after a short time and thus interrupt the discovery tours that are so important for children.

The offspring is restricted in their desire for freedom.

However, so-called lawnmower parents even go so far as to remove all obstacles from their children's path in order to protect them from defeat or danger.
