There was a time when I was really into crime shows on TV.
One of them was Rizzoli & Isles.
Then I lost sight of it.
When I got "Mother's Heart" from the publisher, I was thrilled.
Because until then I didn't even know that the series was based on a book series.
Tess Gerritsen "Mother's Heart": About the book
Since I was already familiar with the characters from the series, I was able to immerse myself in the story immediately.
But the thriller is written in such a way that even readers who don't know the series are immediately drawn into it.
The brutal murder of a Boston nurse has Detective Jane Rizzoli and Coroner Maura Isles on edge.
The woman's skull was smashed in when she returned home while she was still in her work clothes.
Did she surprise a thief, or was someone waiting for her?
What Jane doesn't need is a mother who keeps calling her about a neighbor's daughter who she thinks has been kidnapped - one who has run away several times.
Plus there are those rude newbies on the street who just moved in.
Something about them isn't kosher, Angela thinks.
Jane brushes aside her mother's warnings.
But Angela's gut feeling doesn't deceive and puts her in great danger...
Tess Gerritsen "Mother's Heart"
"A Heart for Mothers" could also be used as the title for the novel.
Because this isn't just about Detective Rizzoli's mother.
The novel is written in an exciting way and manages to increase it with each chapter until the end.
Tess Gerritsen "Mother's heart": My conclusion
Wow.
There is a difference between watching a series and reading the book that goes with it.
I can already hear the rolling eyes of some people who are now expecting the sentence: But the book was better.
I can't say that directly.
I found the book just as interesting as the series on TV.
The advantage was that I didn't have to endure any advertising and was able to continue reading unhindered.
I loved Tess Gerritsen's writing style.
The characters are well developed and the setting is also perfect.
The change of perspective gave the whole thing the right kick.
We experience parts of the story first-hand, from the first-person perspective of Angela Rizzoli, Detective Rizzoli's mother.
An elderly woman who is obviously terribly bored and has nothing better to do than watch her neighbors.
But what emerges from this is pure excitement.
I would recommend this novel to anyone, crime fiction fanatic or not.
