This is how men stay healthy: Which check-ups are most important

Men go to the doctor less often, risking undetected diseases that can be life-threatening.

Men go for cancer screening less often than women.
Only twelve percent took part in an early detection examination for prostate cancer in 2019, quotes the medical journal from an evaluation by the Barmer health insurance company.
With most types of cancer, the chances of recovery are very good in many cases – provided the cancer is diagnosed early.
This is where early cancer detection comes into play.
The most common causes of death in Germany
1st place: 338,000 deaths due to cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks or strokes
2nd place: 239,600 deaths from cancer
(Federal Statistical Office, latest data on deaths, survey from 2020)
Early cancer detection examinations are strongly recommended by the Federal Ministry of Health.
You don't have to pay them out of your own pocket if you've reached a certain age.
The following recommendations from the Ministry of Health apply to men:
From the age of 45 you should have an annual prostate/genital examination with a urologist.
This is used for the early detection of prostate cancer.
Skin cancer screening is recommended every two years from the age of 35 to detect skin cancer at an early stage.
From the age of 50 to 54, the Federal Ministry of Health recommends an annual examination of the colon and rectum in order to be able to detect and treat colorectal cancer at an early stage.
Men over the age of 55 are also recommended to make an appointment for a colonoscopy to prevent colon cancer.
Two examinations at intervals of ten years are covered by the health insurance companies.
Exercising not only strengthens muscles.
Exercise ensures that happy hormones are released.
However, a healthy lifestyle does not replace regular check-ups at the doctor's.

Also important in addition to cancer prevention: regular check-ups
Diabetes, high blood pressure, liver disease: many ailments go without symptoms for a long time.
Only blood tests and other tests by the doctor can make the correct diagnosis and initiate the appropriate therapy.
So don't wait too long before making your first appointment for a routine check-up with your family doctor.
