A church educational institution reportedly told a married same-sex couple in DeQuincy, Louisiana, that their recently adopted daughter could no longer attend the affiliated daycare center because of her "lifestyle."
This was reported by several US media unanimously.
Parents Emily and Jennifer Parker told NBC News that there was a meeting with the school principal and a pastor two days before the new school year started.
There they were told they would have to find a new home for their daughter as their relationship did not conform to the teachings of the Bible Baptist Academy.
Marriage is only between a man and a woman, the pastor said.
The five-year-old girl is Emily Parker's biological niece, local broadcaster KPLC News reported.
Parker and her wife adopted the child in March after the biological father died in September 2020 after an accident at work.
The girl had already attended the Bible Baptist Academy kindergarten last year and had many friends there, the couple explained.
»Commitment to upholding our Christian values«
The educational institution released a statement on its website.
Among other things, it states: “There are times when our commitment to upholding our Christian values does not align with the values of other people.
But this should not be interpreted as hatred or malice.«
Jennifer Parker told KPLC News that she was overwhelmed by the support the family was receiving.
The couple have already received offers from other Christian educational institutions in the area.
