This Saturday afternoon, it appeared in third position of the best-selling books on the French page of Amazon.

In the aftermath of the knife attack of which Salman Rushdie was the victim, his book

The Satanic Verses

, which had earned the British writer a fatwa from the Guide to the Iranian Revolution Khomeini, is torn off.

This Saturday afternoon, it appeared in third position of the best-selling books on the French page of Amazon.

And in tenth place on the international version of the American platform.

On Apple Books, its digital version was even number one in France.

A tour of the Fnac site also shows that the book, released in 1988 and accused by Islamists of ridiculing the Koran and the Prophet Muhammad, is unavailable on the shelves in most of the brand's stores.

It was still available in limited quantities in some stores before the attack on the author on Friday.

Same observation on the site of Gibert or that of Cultura, where it is almost everywhere unavailable.

Since its release in 1988,

The Satanic Verses

has sold several million copies worldwide - the book has been translated into more than fifteen languages.

The fatwa launched the following year by Ayatollah Khomeini, Supreme Guide of the Iranian Revolution, had even revived sales of the book.

It has been banned in India - country of birth of Salman Rushdie - and in many Muslim or Muslim-majority countries (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, Bangladesh, Sudan, Tunisia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Qatar...).
