(ANSA) - HAVANA, AUGUST 13 - A team of Cuban specialists yesterday located the remains of four firefighters who were missing as part of the extinguishing operation of a mega fire produced by lightning in a waste and fuel depot in the province west of Matanzas, now practically off.
The news, reported today by the Prensa Latina news agency, was communicated during a meeting chaired by the president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel.
Until yesterday, the official toll of the fire was two deaths, many dozen injured and 14 disappeared, probably all members of the firefighters who rushed to the scene first to fight the flames.
The Minister of Public Health, José Angel Portal, confirmed at the meeting that 22 people remain hospitalized, including seven in critical or serious conditions.
Over the weekend, the governor of Matanzas, Mario Sabines, indicated, the recovery of the industrial area and the surrounding damaged areas, environmental monitoring, the restoration of logistics in the distribution of fuels, as well as the search for other victims currently considered missing.
