The night has cast its black veil over Hostens (Gironde) where a thick fog of gray smoke gives a ghostly appearance to the undergrowth along the departmental road leading to Saint-Magne.
It is 10 p.m. on Thursday August 11 and the temperature is still above 30°C.
Far from the furnace that reigned a few hours earlier.
But enough to keep alive in the heart of the forest these incandescent fumes which give the impression of a dormant volcano.
