It's scientific.

The female orgasm has been examined in quite a few studies, and there are still some unsolved mysteries.

In a new study, researchers claim to have been able to identify three types of orgasm experienced by women, using data collected by a "vibrator biofeedback".

The researchers gave the participants a dildo called a Lioness that was connected to Bluetooth, and were able to classify orgasms into three different types: the "wave", the "avalanche" and the "volcano".

The lioness previously identified these three types of orgasm in 2017, and the new study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine confirms the results of the previous study.

The relatively small-scale study tested 54 women to allow their masturbation data to be collected and a "control" condition in which the dildo was inserted but no stimulation occurred.

"The women were instructed to produce one orgasm themselves and then turn off the device two minutes after reaching the orgasm," the team wrote in their study, "this allowed us to determine when orgasms occurred and to examine the type of changes in the pelvic floor contractions that preceded and those that followed each orgasm."

The sex toys used in the study have sensors that detect pressure, as well as devices for measuring temperature, a gyroscope and an accelerometer, all transmitted to the server via Bluetooth.

The collected data shows the three types of orgasm previously described by Leia:

"wave"

- a short burst of contractions in the pelvis, which is followed by a timed chain of stretching and releasing the muscles of the pelvic floor.

"Volcano"

- an orgasm that is followed by a feeling of stretching that climbs upwards in the muscles of the pelvic floor.

"Avalanche"

- Contractions in the high part of the base of the pelvic floor that continue thanks to self-stimulation that lead to contractions that slide down during and after the orgasm.

Descriptions collected by the participants describe the types of orgasm in more detail.

The "volcano" orgasm was reported as "almost every muscle in my body tensed as the pleasure intensified, and then there was a huge release. I know it's over and I can relax."

The "avalanche" was described as "my body starts shaking, then I suddenly explode and reach orgasm. A kind of spasms begin (a good spasm) over and over again until the body finally starts to relax and let my muscles rest."

The most common type experienced by the women was the "wave" (26 out of 54), followed by the "avalanche" (17 out of 54), and then the "volcano" (11 out of 54).

By the way, the data shows that women experience only one type of orgasm.

"Someone with a 'volcano' orgasm won't also have an 'avalanche' orgasm," it wrote in 2017. "That doesn't mean multiple patterns are impossible (you never know!), but so far,
