(ANSA) - BEIJING, AUGUST 14 - Democratic senator Ed Markey leads the delegation of the US Congress that landed in Taipei, 12 days after the visit of the speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
This was reported by the state agency Cna.
With Markey, according to the American Institute in Taiwan (US embassy de facto), are Democratic MPs John Garamendi, Alan Lowenthal and DonBeyer, and Republican MP Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen.
During the mission, which will close tomorrow August 15 and which is part of a broader visit to the Indo-Pacific, the delegation will hold high-level meetings in Taipei to discuss bilateral relations and regional security.
Pelosi's visit provoked a harsh Chinese reaction, which considers the island an "inalienable" part of its territory, giving way to large-scale exercises by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) around Taiwan.
