2022-08-15T10:28:30.695Z

In the middle of the night from Sunday to Monday, a low magnitude earthquake occurred in the Vosges.

During the night from Sunday to Monday, part of the Vosges was surprised by an earthquake.

A magnitude 2.5 earthquake struck at 12:42 a.m. sharp.

It was felt as far as Epinal, yet located 13 kilometers from the epicenter, raised on the heights of Eloyes, halfway with Xamontarupt.

Its epicenter is certainly located 5 kilometers deep, but the other Vosges towns are a little further away.

Saint-Dié-des-Vosges is 31 kilometers away, Thaon-les-Vosges 22 and Golbey 18. At the Eloyes bakery, an employee confides this Monday morning to our colleagues from France Bleu "I heard of course in at night, I thought it was explosions, there were four or five”.

The data, detected automatically from the recordings of the monitoring stations of the Seismological and Geodetic Network, are currently being analyzed by the National Seismic Monitoring Network (RéNass) to find out the origin of the phenomenon.

An area already affected by earthquakes in the past

This is not the first time an earthquake has struck this part of the Vosges.

At the end of 1984, many earthquakes of magnitude between 3.8 and 4.8 were recorded along a route linking Cheniménil to Val-d'Ajol.

The 2022 phenomenon is currently being analyzed by RéNass to find out whether it is a phenomenon caused directly or indirectly by human activity.
