The open seating policy of the American airline Southwest Airlines (Southwest Airlines), a policy that has existed for decades, is considered one of the more controversial aspects in the eyes of its passengers.

Many people do like the possibility of sitting on a flight wherever they want, as long as it is not occupied, but slowly, more and more passengers are starting to hate it.

The company does not assign its passengers a seat during the check-in process, and they are invited to choose any available seat after boarding the plane.

However, Southwest has a practice of boarding passengers strictly according to different group categories.

Could cause a flight delay?

Of course, the fact that you boarded the plane earlier does not mean that the seat next to you will remain free - which may ruin the flight experience for many.

Another method, which quickly went viral on social media, shows a passenger who uploaded a video to Tik Tok and performed an incredibly simple trick to leave the seat next to him empty.

The young man, Zach Prengler, appears to be sitting comfortably while other passengers shunt the middle seat next to him, believing it to be occupied by another passenger.

Only that other passenger was a "ghost passenger": Zach stuck his hand into his hood and even incorporated a visor into this construction.

It's an incredibly simple trick, but Zach said it does work well.

Many of those commenting on Zach's video applauded his originality, but one commenter claimed that when counting the passengers, there would be an error in the calculation - which would lead to flight delays.
