The famous British author, screenwriter and journalist Nicholas Evans, author of the book "The Horse Whisperer", passed away at the age of 72.

In a statement delivered today (Monday) on behalf of the artists' agency that represented Evans, it was said that he died already on August 9 following a heart attack.

"He lived a full and happy life in his home on the banks of the River Dart in Devon," the statement said.

"The Horse Whisperer", Evans' most famous book, was published in 1995 and dealt with Tom Booker, a farmer with special abilities to channel and treat injured horses.

The book has been translated into more than 40 languages ​​and has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

In 1998 he worked on a successful motion picture directed and starring Robert Redford, with Kristin Scott Thomas, Sam Neill and Scarlett Johansson in her breakthrough role.

Among his other literary works that have been translated into Hebrew can be found "The Loop", "The Watershed" and "In the Heart of Fire".

Although he was British, the plots of Evans' books take place, most of them all, in the Rocky Mountains in the western United States, since Evans was particularly fond of westerns and even lived for a long time in the USA, partly in the Montana prairies.

Evans was born in 1950 in Romesgrove in the UK.

During his life he had time to volunteer for the international charity organization VSO which sent him to Africa, while in the 1970s he served as a foreign news journalist and covered, among other things, the US elections and the civil war in Lebanon. In the 1980s he worked as a producer on British television. He was Married to the Scottish singer Charlotte Gordon Cumming, and left behind four children.

He previously revealed that he and his widow were seriously injured after accidentally eating poisoned mushrooms while on a trip to Scotland.

Both had to undergo a kidney transplant, with the author himself receiving the kidney of one of his daughters.

He also said that when he wrote "The Horse Whisperer" in 1994, he suffered from malignant skin cancer.
