Boat trip on the Spree: Many locks will be closed from Monday

Due to extremely low water in the Spree, Brandenburg will be closing many locks in the Spreewald from this Monday.
It is therefore also possible that smaller bodies of water will dry up and fish will be endangered.
"The area is parched and the tributaries no longer bring water into the Spree," said the Ministry for Agriculture, Environmental Protection and Climate.
The State Ministry for the Environment announced that further tough measures would have to be taken so that the outflow of the Spree below the Spreewald does not come to a complete standstill.
In order for the water to remain largely in the main Spree, many outlets would have to be completely closed or severely restricted.

As a result, it could happen that the cut-off ditches and streams fall dry.
Fish deaths could occur and emergency fishing would be organized.
The ministry is asking those living near water bodies in the region to monitor them closely and "if necessary, save fish and other aquatic creatures on their own and transfer them to water-bearing bodies of water."
