Interior Ministry: 125 women killed in a year, more than one every three days

Over the past 12 months, crimes have been on the rise, but remain below the pre-covid level. Cybercrime almost doubled (ANSA)


In one year, between 1 August 2021 and 31 July 2022,

125 women were killed in Italy

, an increase compared to 108 in the previous 12 months, on average more than one every three days.

This was reported in the

annual dossier of the Interior Ministry

which highlights how 108 of these murders were committed in a family or emotional context, and in particular 68 of these had a partner or a former companion as responsible. 

According to the data, released on the occasion of the National Committee for Public Order and Safety,

reports of stalking have decreased in the last 12 months (15,817)

, compared to 18,653 in the previous period.

At the same time, the warnings of the commissioner increased, 3,100 against 2,565, of which more than half for domestic violence.

Once the lockdown effect ended,

crimes have increased in the last year (2,116,479 in total)

, even if they remain below the pre-pandemic level: the murders were 319, the robberies 24,644 and the thefts 900 thousand.

Strong increase for computer crimes: 8,814 attacks detected, compared to 4,938 in the previous 12 months.

Almost 2.4 billion were seized from organized crime

, for a total of 7,752 assets.

The value is higher than last year (1.96 billion).

In the same period, 2,741 assets were returned to the community, of which 2,233 properties and 229 companies.

48 fugitives were arrested, 82 judicial police operations against the mafias.
