A potential explosive device was found in the Königslutter Clinic in Lower Saxony on Monday morning.
The police then evacuated the building, a police spokesman told SPIEGEL.
A suspect was arrested.
Shortly before 8 a.m., the police received a call from a witness who reported a suspicious object in the psychiatric hospital building.
The emergency services then cordoned off the place, the spokesman continued.
The possible explosive device is currently being investigated by specialists.
"It is still unclear whether it is an explosive device or an incendiary device," said the spokesman.
A suspect was found on the hospital grounds.
The police could not provide any information on possible motives.
